.: Help for hunting (common skill group)
The hunting skills cover tracking, taming, and harvesting creatures. Each skill is learned independently. The more hunting skills you know, the more effective your tracking becomes, and the better the materials you recover from beasts you slay.
Companion Limit:
You can have 1 charmed creature by default.
Learning Lure adds +1, and Predator's Knowledge adds +1.
Skills:
Track Sense nearby creatures in adjacent rooms.
Tame Attempt to tame a defeated creature as a companion.
Lure Place bait to attract creatures to your location.
Improved Track Track scans further and works during storms.
Predator's Knowledge Study a beast to reveal its stats and drops.
Clean Kill Deal 10% bonus damage against beasts.
Trophy Hunter Rare creatures drop trophies for Renown.
Apex Predator First attack against a studied beast deals double damage.
Skinning:
When you kill a beast, you automatically attempt to recover materials
from the remains: hide, pelt, feathers, scales, snakeskin, or amphibian
skin depending on the creature. The recovered item is named after the
creature ("a Gray Squirrel Pelt", "a Sturdy Buck Hide") and lands in
the room.
Quality comes in four tiers, from worst to best:
damaged A torn scrap, only fit for the simplest work.
normal Serviceable. What a steady hand expects to recover.
fine Cut clean and intact. Worth more to a tanner.
pristine Taken whole, without a single flaw.
Each hunting skill you learn improves both your chance of recovering
anything at all and the quality of what you find. A hunter with no
hunting skills will mostly come away empty-handed or with damaged
scraps; an experienced one consistently brings home fine or pristine
materials.
Some creatures drop multiple materials (a beak alongside feathers,
bones alongside a pelt). Extra drop slots are gated behind hunting
experience, so deeper investment opens up new things to recover.
